Bloody Jews is a drama based around the sexual awakening of two women who realise they desire each other.   They are both from the Jewish Orthodox community and meet at a Mikvah. ( Mikvah - a bath where Jewish rituals are performed) In this instance ‘the Mikva’ is being employed for women to prepare themselves to have sex with their male spouse’s after two weeks of female impurity’ menstruation). It involves a pre-washing of the body and hair followed by a complete submersion in water.  In some areas of the world a Mikva is set inside a building similar to a health/leisure centre with multiple showers and several Mikva baths for submersion. Meanwhile the sexual control that the religion imposes has repercussions as the emotional confinement begins to bubble to the surface when Esther and Channah meet.

This short  drama is set in one day at a Mikva of the kind described above.  There are three players consisting of the two potential lovers and the Mikva attendant. The protagonists are at different stages of their marital lives. Channah is a young woman of 18 preparing for her marriage ceremony/commitment that is to take place later on that day and Esther is a slightly older woman in her late 20's and has been married for seven years with 2 small children under the age of seven. The Mikva attendant is a middle aged married woman who understands the ‘rabbinical laws of Mikva’, and is there to ensure all that takes place inside the area adhere to the Jewish laws.

The sexual chemistry between Channah and Esther strikes violently and they respond through very little dialogue as they are from a community that places modesty and control in a spiritually lofty position. Therefore the women’s response to this lighting bolt of emotion is through their body language, breath, looks and gestures. The essence of there inner desires are mirrored almost entirely via their actions and posture. The physical dynamics are overwhelming and take both women completely by surprise.

The audience will be taken on this journey with both of the women exploring sexual control and the need for freedom of 

expression in all aspects of our lives.
